A Vegan Meringue Topping and a Chocolate Movie

Vegan MoFo continues! This is a picture-heavy post, so I'll try to keep the text on the light side. Also, I will start this one with the daily movie recommendation instead of the foodz, because once you see what I made you will be far too freaked out to read a movie review! Romantics Anonymous is a quirky French movie about two lonely chocolate lovers who suffer from severe anxiety issues. French charm? Check! Qurikiness? Check! Chocolate? Check! Socially awkward characters? Check! Angélique is a super talented but extremely shy chocolatier who finds a job at a chocolate-factory owned by Jean-René, who is possibly even more socially awkward. It's a romantic comedy, so they fall in love and encounter all kinds of funny situations. You probably need to be able to relate to their problems to fully enjoy it, but the characters, the chocolate, the sets, and the music will probably keep you interested even if you are the most outgoing people-person in the history of humankind!

Daiya Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Giveaway!

Who loves cheese? I love my vegan cheeses and I'm not ashamed to admit it. When Daiya contacted me about sending me some of their products to try, I said no. Not because I didn't want them, but because I've already tried them all! I have never met a Daiya cheese I didn't like! My favorite is probably the jack style wedge because it's mild and creamy and soft when melted, but the mozzarella and cheddar shreds are also permanent residents in our fridge. Today I had a quick grilled cheese sandwich made with: tomato, baby spinach, a bit of Colman's mustard, Daiya jack style cheese, and an onion ring for good measure. The onion ring was pre-cooked and crispy, of course, and I buttered up the bread with a little Earth Balance to get it nice and toasty. I kept the skillet covered while I was grilling the sandwich to help the cheese reach its maximum melting potential, and it did! Gooey! I never take my precious Earth Balance for granted and it would break my heart (or my belly) if I ever had to give it up. A few weeks ago, Yvonne left me a comment asking about the biscuits that I showed in my quince post . I gave Yvonne the recipe and told her that I made them with Earth Balance. Yvonne didn't let the fact that Earth Balance is not available in the Netherlands deter her from making biscuits, and she went ahead and kicked some biscuit butt with coconut oil instead. Yeah! It's that soothing, tingling sensation you get on the back of your neck when you hear certain sounds. I never knew it had a name or that other people experienced it too.
