I'm on YouTube!

I'm on YouTube!

*small voice* Hi! Remember me? It's been a while! How are you? Enjoying fall? Eaten enough pumpkin spice everything yet? Enjoying spring if you're in the southern hemisphere?

I just wanted to write a quick post to let you know I've made some cooking videos and shared them on the YouTubes. Have you heard of ASMR? It's that soothing, tingling sensation you get on the back of your neck when you hear certain sounds. I never knew it had a name or that other people experienced it too. Not everybody does experience it, mind you. If you're one of the poor souls who doesn't get the tingly feeling then ASMR may seem stupid. Anyway, I've been watching ASMR videos on YouTube to help soothe the Anxiety Monster, and while they don't always help, it's nice when they do. My favorite ASMR videos are cooking videos. No whispers! ASMR whispers freak me out. So I decided to make a few of my own ASMR-friendly* cooking videos until I lose interest in them. You know me. I rarely stick with anything. So far I've made eight videos.

* UPDATE: Abort! Abort! I won't be calling these videos "ASMR friendly" anymore. The whole ASMR thing has become weird. So now I think I'll simply be calling them "relaxing" videos. Or maybe "quiet" videos. "Introvert" videos?

Here is a little sampling.

There are a few more on my channel and I'll probably make a few more before I lose interest and quit. Here's the link to my channel in case you'd like to subscribe or check it out.

Anyway, that's all the news I have. I hope you're well and doing whatever makes you happy.

Sorry I've been such an antisocial hermit. I think this is the most antisocial I have ever been in my entire life! I'm slowly turning into Clint Eastwood's character in Gran Torino

    1. Oh I hope they work for you! I know we all find different sounds "triggering", so I hope we both have similar ASMR triggers! :)

  4. Hello! Hello! I have missed you!
I am definitely looking into the ASMR business, it sounds very suitable to my needs.
The cooking sounds are very soothing!
Except of course for the visceral reaction I have to seeing a tub full of coconut oil. ;)

    1. PS, super glad no whispering. Whispering is creepy. Do you know who whispers? People being rude in the cinema... and serial killers. That is in now way soothing. ;)

    2. Hehe, I always think of you when I use coconut oil! "Poor Susan", I think. Good news is that the beer bread and the thumbprint cookies can be made with vegan butter.

Serial killers! That made me laugh and choke on my coffee! :D

  5. As I already mentioned at the Applesauce Cinnamon Cake video, it's absolutely delicious and my Hubby immediately asked me to make it again soon for him to take into work for his colleagues! ;) [He gets a kick out of 'shocking' omnis when they find out what they ate and enjoyed was vegan! ^_^ ]
Pumpkin puree sounds awesome, too! I can definitely see that being used instead of applesauce, thanks for the hint!!! :)

I look forward to trying more of your recipes! *wave*

    1. Hi again! Shocking omnis with tasty vegan goodies is great! There was this handyman that came to do some work for us a while back and I was making a broccoli casserole with a cashew-based sauce while he was here. He said that something smelled delicious but when I told him it was broccoli casserole his smile disappeared and he just said "oh, I don't know about that." At least I shocked him with the yummy smell of the vegan casserole, if not the taste! :)

I can't remember now if I use a whole cup of pumpkin puree or 3/4 cup because I always wing it, but I'll get it all sorted out soon for the pumpkin cake video. Thanks again for taking the time to tell me you and your hubby liked the applesauce cake! :)

  6. River,
I am so glad to see/hear(ish)/read you again! Your emails as Wing-It Vegan gave me such joy. Not just for their content, but due to your life-loving narration.
I don't have ASMR, but I do have Asperger's. I notice everything, everywhere, all the time. So the fewer distractions in your videos, the better. Although I did notice your orange nail polish. And frankly, the cooking sounds are sensuous and make me feel as though I am in the room - I like them!
Please keep taking care of yourself. We're all in this together.

    1. Hi Julie! Your message was waiting for me in my inbox when I woke up and it has given me a huge cheesy grin. Thank you so much for your kind words.

I am so glad you like the videos! Sometimes I find cooking videos or other YouTube videos overwhelming if there is a background song plus a person (or people!) talking and I don't even have Asperger's, so I probably couldn't even imagine how it must be for you. I'll try to always keep distractions to a minimum in my videos. Although the other day when I was making the potato omelette I had to take a break and wait until the ducks outside my window stopped quacking! Rowdy little things! It's interesting to notice how much noise there is around when I need complete silence. Ducks quacking, air conditioner humming, clock ticking, lawn mower in the distance.

Thank you again, Julie, for your kind message and encouraging words. I hope you are having a lovely Wednesday! :)

  7. Hi River, I made your coconut oil thumbprints and the tender chocolate cookies and both were delicious! Thank you! Maybe stupid to mention this, but I am Yvonne from the Netherlands to whom you referred to in your post of January 22, 2014 because I made your shortbread with coconut oil (no Earth Balance available here). I was thrilled by your reaction! And, after not seeing posts on you website I was so pleased to see your videos on YouTube. I will continue to make your recipes and wish you all the best!

    1. Yvonne! Hi! Of course I remember you! Actually, this is a little spooky because today I worked on a new video for my YouTube channel, and guess what I was making... the same biscuits that I gave you a recipe for in the comments section of the quince paste post back in 2013! Naturally I remembered your lovely comments as I was making the biscuits, because I actually always remember your lovely comments whenever I make coconut oil biscuits. :)

Didn't I tell you? Spooky timing!

I am so happy that you liked the cookies, Yvonne! It's so nice of you to stop by to let me know, and it's so nice to hear from you again! <3

  8. That is quite spooky! And very flattering that you think of me because, as a blogger, you get the chance to 'meet' al lot of of people (online) and I'm just one of those :) Looking forward to the new video of THE coconut biscuits! Have a great Sunday (hmm, I'm thinking about making cookies today ... )!
