The One Where Mr. Wing-It Tries to Lay Sod

Running the risk of offending my people from the British Isles and other places where the following word is considered a rude word, I almost titled this post "Sodding Ducks". Well, Mr. Wing-It was trying to lay sod and the ducks were "helping", so they were his team of Sodding Ducks!

Mr. Wing-It Tries to Lay Sod

These photos were taken last September. Mr. Wing-It is not actually out there laying sod in the snow right now. We're all mad here, but not that mad.

The foreman, Mr.Duckie McMudbill, kept a close eye on the process to make sure Mr. Wing-It wasn't digging up dirt the wrong way. There is a right way and a wrong way to dig up dirt, according to the persnickety foreman.

Here he was telling Mr. Wing-It that he was indeed doing it wrong. He needed to wait for Mr. Duckie McMudbill to inspect the soil before he moved on to the next section. There goes Mr. Wing-It's end-of-the-year bonus.

If you're thinking "Aww, he is so sweet hanging out with Mr. Wing-It", then Mr. Duckie McMudbill has deceived you with his cuteness!

The murderous bastard was only there for the worms.

He thoroughly inspected every inch of soil, terrorizing the poor worms.

His meticulous inspections turned what would have otherwise been a few hours' work into a four-day project, because Mr. Wing-It couldn't just  keep on shoveling with the duck standing right in front of him!

Eventually, he brought in backup.

"You check the back, I'll inspect the front." Mr. Wing-It had no choice but to wait.

At one point, he resorted to standing ON the shovel to make sure Mr. Wing-It wasn't going too fast.

He seemed to be quite pleased with himself by the end of the day.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why you should never hire a team of ducks to help with your gardening.

See you next time! There'll be chocolate chip cookies! Or maybe ciabatta rolls. Which one should I blog first?

  3. I don't think you are appreciating how far our of their way these ducks went to help. I mean, really, it was probably a horrible chore for them, but they persevered anyway. ;)
If they would like to come over and dig up my veggie patch that has been bald ever since I got it put in three years ago, that would be great. I am a terrible gardener, maybe some duck friends would motivate me.
