Seagull Fun in Northern Michigan!

Greetings from Michigan! Yep, we're still in Michigan. I hope you don't mind if I keep bombarding you with travel photos until Mr. Wing-It and I go home and I can cook some decent food. I made a lovely peach sauce during our last stay-cation but I cannot find the recipe anywhere, which means that I probably left it at home in my messy recipe notebook. Oy! That's OK, we're going home for a few days next weekend and I will post it then! :)

This time I would like to bombard you with pictures from our recent trip to Mackinaw City, Michigan. We actually stayed in St. Ignace which is across the bridge from Mackinaw city. St. Ignace isn't quite as crowded as M.C. and hotel rates there are a little less expensive. Double score!

Do you like seagulls? I *LOVE* them! And so does Mr. Wing-It! He likes to feed them and I like to photograph them, so we make a great seagull-stalking team! The seagulls in Mackinaw City and St. Ignace are the friendliest birds I have ever met. You can click on the pictures to zoom in on their seagull awesomeness (it takes you to my flickr)

Where are the pictures of Mackinac Island?! Well, we didn't go there! We would have had to take a boat ride, and I don't do floating things! :D

If you want to see more of our seagulls, I just finished a separate page with pictures of seagulls from around the US and you can check it out here.

That's it for Michigan! Hopefully next time we meet we will be home and I will be able to share that elusive peach sauce recipe. Peach sauce = Gilmore Girls Geekery! YAY!

PS: We won't be able to check into our next hotel until this afternoon, so I won't be able to reply to your comments until then :)

  1. You are the only blogger I know who could make seagulls look cute! That first close-up is awesome. Love the captions, too ;) .

And I'm definitely not a big fan of floaty things, either!

  2. I never realized how cute seagulls were! I love that first picture. That little guy looks like he's posing for the camera. I hope you enjoy your trip home.

  3. Lake Huron looks practically tropical--so strange, it must have been freezing if you dipped a toe in! Love the seagull pics--they're one of my favorite birds, so much character in 'em!

  4. What great photos!!

I never would have guessed that that body of water was Lake Huron...it's so blue that it looks like somewhere in the Caribbean!

  5. I love the 'seagulls-in-mid-flight' shots! Great pictures :)

And, as usual, I'm very jealous of all the beautiful places you get to visit whilst working.

  6. Those seegull pictures are absolutely stunning! How did you do that? i always mess up animal pictures.

  7. Lovely! One of our (ancient) revered Cleveland meteorologists calls them "lake gulls" as they are not on the sea! By any name your photos are gorgeous, as always!

  8. The seagull pics are awesome — makes me want to go find the nearest seagulls (not too hard in Madison) and take their pictures. But, there's no way I could do half as well as you, so I'll just hang out here and look at yours some more. :)

  10. Ricki - Thank you, but these seagulls get all the credit! They are so cute and friendly that it's hard not to take a decent picture! Floaty things are scary, as are flying things... and airports that want to confiscate your expensive toothpaste! :)

Kiersten - Aren't they super cute? He really was posing for the camera, but he wasn't working for free - he demanded food in return! :D

Jes - It looked like some sort of tropical resort! I bet the water was pretty cold because there weren't many people swimming. Yep. Seagulls are awesome, and extremely smart!

Carrie - Thank you! Isn't it strange? They should start serving coconutty drinks by the beach! They might as well! :D

    Wabbit - Tram-ap-oline! :D
You haz a jealous of our travels, I haz a jealous of your kittehs. Call it even? :)

Mihl - Thank you! Actually the seagulls did all the work and I just pressed the shutter button. I always take lots of pictures and then I keep the good ones and delete the very many blurry ones. This year I even took a picture of a seagull's body, but not the head! It was out of the shot! That one goes to the recycle bin! :)

Aimee - They really should be called lakegulls! Maybe we should just call them all cutegulls to avoid confusion, because they are all cute! :)

Andrea - Do what I do and take a gazillion pictures - a few of them have to come out OK! I should write a whole post of my *epic fail* pictures, it should be hilarious! :D

HayMarket8 - These were very well mannered seagulls! Although last year when we were there I was slapped in the face by one. Yep. It made my eye all red and swollen. I guess it was my fault for not calculating how long the bird's wing span really was! :D

  11. I love seagulls! I'm from Wisconsin and I've never been to Mackinaw Island. I think there are just too many lakes nearby to make it worth the expensive trip!

    Beautiful photos!

  12. Katie - It is quite an expensive trip, especially during the touristy peak season when it's so freakin' crowded! PS: Seagulls rock! :D

  13. Very appropriate pics greeted me when I followed you to your new/old home on Wing It Vegan! It's nice to join you. :)

  14. Sorry about the delay, guys! We had an epic journey home and I'm still pretty exhausted and brain dead! :)

Danielle - YAY! Thank you for following me home! Watch out for the naughty seagulls flying overhead! :D

Mo - Aren't they cute boids? At least they won't throw acorns at you like those pesky squirrels from your neighborhood! :)
